Refusal to Stay Broken

SEVR explores what an image reveals and what it leaves for you to discover. Refusal to Stay Broken introduces one part of its larger story.
# Refusal to Stay Broken

Some stories are buried beneath the surface. You notice their traces before you understand what they mean: a mark that interrupts an image, an expression that holds your attention, a detail you missed the first time.

SEVR begins with that act of looking closer.

The collection explores the distance between what is visible and what remains private. An image can suggest something without explaining everything. A character can hold a place in a larger world while leaving room for you to decide what you see in it. That space matters. It allows my artwork to become personal without requiring everyone to bring the same experience to it.

“Refusal to Stay Broken” names one part of that idea. It describes a refusal to let a difficult moment become the only thing that defines what comes next. The title does not promise an easy resolution. It leaves room for uncertainty, change, and a strength that may be quiet.

Within the collection, marks and interruptions can become part of the visual language. Their purpose is to make you pause and look again. What first appears damaged may also suggest movement, persistence, or something still taking shape. The meaning depends partly on what surrounds it and partly on what you bring to the image.

That is why the collection needs a world around its characters. A figure placed in a setting has a relationship to that place. Space, light, color, and scale influence how you read the scene. They can make the same character feel isolated, watchful, determined, or in motion. The environment becomes part of the story, part of you, rather than something added to fill the background.

Each piece in SEVR contributes to the larger collection. Like songs on an album, the designs can stand alone while sharing a mood and a connection. You may encounter one image first. Another may change how you understand it. A small detail may become more interesting after you have seen the work beside it.

The collection leaves that discovery open. You do not need to explain your personal history to connect with it. You may respond to the composition, the character, the atmosphere, or the feeling that something remains just out of view. Those are all ways into the artwork.

SEVR, the premium fashion and lifestyle label from Cole Alexander. Original artwork is the starting point. The product gives that artwork another place to exist, where someone can encounter it in everyday life and make their own connection to it.

The story continues through that encounter. Something catches your attention. You return to it. You notice more.

Every piece has a story. Every story leaves a mark.
